Friends for dinner

Lo Hei

I have been baking cakes and cookies non stop since the 2nd week of December. Non stop as in after work, cook dinner and start baking till around 12.
Cupcakes for a school bake sale, Katrina and James's wedding and christening cakes, another christening cake, christmas cakes and tons of pineapple tarts for a CNY carnival, orders and home consumption. Plus kuih bangkit and peanut cookies. Boy, am glad it's over now and I can rest for a bit again. My left wrist is playing up, whether it is due to too much kneading or I sprained it somehow or due to arthiritis. But luckily, will be going to see my consultant for my regular arthiritis check in a couple of weeks, so I can find out what it is. Simple actions like washing hair, washing face, putting on bra - all these hurt my wrist - what can I say - getting old sucks! haha

Anyway back to the topic in hand. Invited some friends to dinner and made the following:

Yu Sheng

Satay Babi

Nonya Chap Chai

Beef braised with Daikon

Deep fried tofu with fish paste

Ngoh Hiang

Itek Sioh

and for dessert - Mango Pudding and a friend made Chocolate Pavlova.

Hi Tina, WOW! One more time....WOW!
Its been a long, long time since I've seen a spread like this, of typical Nyonya dishes.

Tina....very few Nyonyas like you today, and all your food displayed are just intoxicatingly delicious!
I love everyone, maybe might take a pass on that 'itek' dish as have never appreciated ducks, ha ha.

And your yee sang sure is exciting and really loaded!
Your satay babi.....I have not eaten this, can't remember when.
Love your fried tau fu too.
And the desserts....?

Hey, where you learn all this? From Mother's tangan peggang rattan tuition?
Or grandma's hands on hips, and "ya anak, macham ni la" cooking tuition.
Or the Swiss Finishing school, ha ha.

Tina....where were you when I was handing out my resume? Ha ha.
I will just say the only word I can think of re your Nyonya food, 'OUTSTANDING'!

Love all the pics....you mind I copy a few for bila gua naik angin I will display it in a blog cherita, credit your of course.
Have a nice day, stay young.
Lee.

My dear Mr Lee, thank you very much for your compliments la. Aiyo, just normal home cooked food la. I was not interested in cooking when I was younger but only after I got married and lived in Japan that I had to keep asking my mum for recipes. This was before emails and cheap phone calls. And somehow over the years, my repetoire just picked up.

And of course, you are most welcome to copy and pictures you want. If they are too small, let me know which and I will send you the uncropped version.

Have a great day!
Tina
